About Sara Bhuller

Hello, my name’s Sara, founder of Model Scout Academy. Thanks for stopping by.

I really hope you’re enjoying our website and if there’s anything you’d like to know that isn’t covered in our Frequently Asked Questions page (or elsewhere) please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.

This is the part where I tell you a little bit about myself - and what inspired me to start Model Scout Academy.

I have more than 15-years experience in the modelling industry, including spells with Screenfaces (which was located in Double Bay), and Model Bank at Sydney’s Fox Studios.

As a Casting Director I would analyse briefs sent to us from fashion brands like Supre, or style magazines such as Dolly, and Girlfriend; then send models to castings best suited to the client’s look and requirements.

I was also charged with attracting new business and castings, the result of which means I have extensive contacts with modelling agencies in the fashion capitals of New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, and London. It was wonderfully rewarding to see our models jet-off to shoots and appear on global billboards and editorials.

Selecting new modelling talent for the agency’s books was another favourite aspect of the job.

Successful

t wasn’t all plain sailing, however, and that is one of the reasons why I was motivated to start Model Scout Academy. For every successful model there were plenty who didn’t make it past casting because they were ill prepared.

Walk not quite right, to few poses, wrong approach and attitude, poor clothes selection, below par hair or make-up – there are many reasons girls (and boys) fail to get the gig.

Watching them try to cope with disappointment inspired me to pass on the knowledge I have picked up. We’re talking (mostly) about young people here, teenagers crying out for the basics of modelling, the dos and don’ts that can make all the difference between a successful career and failure.

All the girls and boys I encountered had something, each stunning in their own way. All they needed was the help I now provide at Model Scout Agency.

For some it may be a lack of confidence, which is where my background in stage and screen comes in. I graduated from the June Dally Watkins Deportment & Modelling School as a child, and I was a member of the Australian Theatre For Young People (ATYP) whose luminaries include actresses Nicole Kidman, Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Lisa Hensley, Victoria Longley; actors Michael Gow, Rupert Reid, Adam Cook, and Felix Williamson; plus director/producer Baz Luhrmann, playwright Katherine Thomson, and The Satellites singer Bianca Moon.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work on many television commercials and programmes (such as All Saints), and also movies. This experience in broadcasting is what I now pass on to our ‘Academy’ students.

It may sound obvious, but face and body are areas all too often neglected. As a former personal stylist with one of Melbourne’s leading style academies, The Australian Image Company, now Image Innovations (I’ve also pictured in beauty in Malaysia and Japan), allied to my qualifications in beauty and as a make-up artist, I can guarantee you will have top marks in this department too.

Potential

I’m also a bit of a health freak. For many would-be models (and their parents) there is a perception that the only way to succeed is to be stick thin. Size zero may have once been en vogue, but it’s no longer the case. Personally I’m delighted.

I like to do weight training and cardio three or four times a week, and exercise plus a healthy diet is a major part of the Model Scout Academy philosophy.

Finally, there’s the top four inches. Industry experience and a BA in Social Science (Psychology), leave me well placed to help with the mental approach. At MSA we go out of our way to make everyone feel relaxed, and to develop confidence and self-esteem.

Many of the elements I have mentioned also apply to our Deportment & Etiquette Course. To succeed in business, to impress in that job interview, or get considered for promotion, you have to look your best.

As an independent consultant with Max Employment, I led workshops encompassing the correct dress, posture, hair and make-up to do just that. I also currently do voluntary work with disadvantaged woman, preparing them for Sydney’s competitive job market (I’ve also volunteered with Mission Australia).

Unfulfilled potential, that’s something I hate to see. It’s one of the major reasons Model Scout Academy came into being. I sincerely hope that you will enrol on one of our courses and let me help you realise yours.

I know you’ve got what it takes. With my help you’ll be unstoppable.

Bye for now

Sara [Bhuller]
